Hemp is a bast fiber that comes from the hemp plant, it belongs to the same family as cannabis but does not have the same psychoactive effects. Because of the origin, growing hemp is heavily regulated or prohibited in many countries.
Hemp is considered to be one of the most sustainable textiles we have. The hemp plant doesn’t require any irrigation and does not need any treatment of pesticides. It grows very fast, up to four metres in just a few months.
Since the hemp plant does not need any pesticides, hemp does not need to be certified organic.
