Acetate
?
Acetate fabrics are made with spun filaments of cellulose taken from wood pulp. It is a chemical textile or sometimes called semi-synthetic. Acetate flakes are generated by a reaction of the wood pulp to a variety of acetic acids. Acetate fabric drapes nicely but has no elasticity and melts when heated. Acetate can biodegrade depending on how its discarded, but is not environmental friendly since it contains many heavy chemicals. Some of these chemicals are plasticisers derived from petroleum, including the much-discussed and very toxic phthalates.
